Advantages︰ | Named copper plated (C.P.) steel wire, or simply C.P. wire, this product is made by electroplating a thick layer of pure copper over the surface of mild or low-carbon steel wires conforming to ASTM B227. Conductivity of the finished product can be customized within the rage of 30% and 40% (22% copper + 78% steel, and 34% copper + 66% steel by weight, respectively.) An additional coating of pure tin or tin-lead alloy can be applied to the C.P. wire aforementioned to achieve the desirable result of strong bonding at the interfaces of copper and steel, copper and tin, or copper and tin-lead alloy. This relatively thick extra coating provides good soldering properties, exhibits nice sheen and prevents discoloration. The final product provides great protection against intensive processing which may otherwise result in strip-off of the coating. The C.P. wire made of mild steel is a good combination of the pliable steel core (3 to 6 times better than the copper wire) and the processible copper coating around it. Constraints on the user’s soldering procedures are significantly relieved for C.P. wires compared to copper wires, thanks to the resiliency and lower thermal conductivity of steel. The final product is extremely durable against bending and twisting that usually occur in assembly of delicate electronic components. |
